It’s Possible
“It’s possible.” Those two words have been on my kitchen chalkboard for the last few months. I knew that during these months I was going to endure the loss of my father, the old pain this would trigger and the new it would birth, the launch of Collide in a new city, two book deadlines, and my day job amidst all the other things life throws at us like laundry and dog poo. I knew there would be days when it would feel impossible to do the things I was tasked to do in the midst of ugly grief, so I inscribed these words in a place I would see daily.
And I wonder do you need these two words too?
Are you going through heartbreak and need to remember that a love story- it’s possible. Do you feel stuck and you need to hear getting unstuck- it’s possible. Do you have a big dream that’s a million miles and a miracle away and you need the reminder- it’s possible!
Friend, here is what I know: When you collide with Jesus He shows up in the most ordinary of places and does the impossible. No, I mean it- He really does. Jesus takes an ordinary thing like water, and by turning it into wine, He reminds us that a miraculous transformation- it’s possible! Jesus goes to Zacheus’s house for lunch and afterward Zach gives half his possessions to the poor, which shows us, heart change- it’s possible! When Jesus shares the story of the lost son unexpectedly coming back to his father, He reminds us, kids coming back home to our hearts- it’s possible!
So look, I don’t know why you need to get a chalkboard and write as big as you can on it, “it’s possible”, but I know you do. I know you do because you and I forget that God can do the actual impossible. He can help you endure a season you don’t think you can. He can take one idea of yours and turn it into something that changes the world! He can take your broken heart and write a story you never dreamed possible. He can move heaven and earth for the person you almost stopped praying for because it’s so easy to give up. He can remind you that the hardest hearts, He can change those too- it’s possible!
The last two months felt impossible to me, and yet God has shown up! I’ve seen Him in the love of friends, the cards from my community, the words given to me by the Spirit, the songs of the Body, the strength He gives the weak, and the promises He keeps day by day. We can do hard things, big things, impossible things, but you know what we need to do it? We need to keep reminding ourselves and each other that with Jesus, it’s possible! How about we make a deal? I’ll keep telling you if you keep telling me.
